Today I thought it would be fun to shift the focus from Photography a bit so I'm here to share some love for some of my local favorites. Today I'm all about eats and treats! Most of my favorite shooting locations are close to Poolesville and my out of town clients often ask about local restaurants so this post is especially for you.
Cuginis Restaurant and Bar serves up the best pizza in town while also offering a fantastic rotating lineup of craft beers. It's easily the place I missed most during last year's restaurant lockdown and the day capacity allows for Trivia again will be the best Tuesday ever. For clients who may have a family member (read husband) who is unthrilled with the prospect of a photo session, I often suggest Cuginis as a post-shoot reward (or a stop before hand, I won't judge!) If beer and pizza don't excite you, another great dinner option is Mexican Grill. But definitely plan this stop for after and watch out because their margaritas are strong!
Another option just a bit outside of town is Rocklands Winery and Farm. Rocklands is a beautiful spot to enjoy a glass of wine and dinner from one of their rotating vendors. They've done a fabulous job negotiating Covid safety protocols and ensuring that visitors have ample space to relax. It's worth noting that the space is also extremely family friendly. While you're there, don't forget to pick up some flowers from the incomparable Sungold Flower Co. The photo below is from one of their flower crown workshops which was so dreamy! Rocklands also has live music most Fridays and you might even be lucky enough to catch local favorite No Stop Light.
Also just outside of town is Calleva. Calleva is widely known for their adventure camps and of course for being the home of Markoff's Haunted Forest, but they also offer fantastic farm-to-table Dirty Dinners and Pizza Nights on the Farm. Both events may require advance planning but are so worth it!
A new tasty addition in town is Local's. If you're looking for freshly baked pastries and fantastic coffee, this is the spot for you. They're working on a beautiful expansion of their outside eating area (overlooking the historic John Poole House) and I can't wait to see their offerings expand.
I couldn't possibly craft a post about eats and treats without mentioning my most favorite sweets of all - cookies from Made With Sugar. (Full disclosure, owner and chief baker Mackenzie is also one of my most favorite people on the planet.) If you're looking for the custom cookies that are not only delicious but also amazingly decorated, this is it. Just make sure that you order well ahead because she books up!
