Last week I shared an amazing sheep story and mentioned that it was a photography bucket list job for me. This prompted someone to ask me what else was on my bucket list so I thought I would share those jobs I'd checked off and the ones I'm still waiting on!
When I started my career as a photographer, I really wanted to do and try everything! Along the way, I've found that some things I can't wait to do again and others I'm just glad to have experienced. I wanted to experience the joy of documenting a wedding and I was lucky enough to share the special day with a few couples. I already have a case of nerves before my family sessions and the pace and responsibility of a wedding is really something else! On the other hand, photographing an engagement was something I would LOVE to do again. When my brother proposed to his now wife, I totally invited myself to be a fly on the wall (or in this case, up the beach) for the special moment and what a rush! I have also done a few boudoir sessions. Helping a woman feel her most beautiful was very rewarding but the photographers who focus their work on boudoir do it so well that I'm happy to stick to families. Just like many of us who grew up in the 90's, Anne Geddes made me want to take photos of ALL of the babies. Being trusted to document the first days of a new baby is totally magical and my calendar is definitely open for lifestyle newborn sessions as soon as Covid protocols allow.
Next up on my people bucket list? I'd love to do some anniversary sessions for couples celebrating 50+ years. I've seen some birthday sessions for octogenarians and on up to centenarians and I think that's such a lovely way to celebrate so many trips around the sun. I have always wanted to photograph a birth but the on-call nature of that specialty has never been compatible with being a mom of three smallish children. Now that my boys are getting older I'm thinking more seriously about pursing it!
Aside from types of sessions, I would love to learn how to work in a darkroom. By the time I found my love of photography, digital was the name of the game so I never had the opportunity to use a darkroom. There is so much magic and alchemy in film photography and the way that its finite nature forces you to slow down and be more intentional about your photos. The biggest non-person thing on my bucket list is to photograph the Northern Lights. There might be a trip in my future that brings that one to fruition so stay tuned!
Do you have a bucket list? For travel or for life?
