When Mandy booked a family session with me, I was so glad that she immediately asked to add a film. I know I say it often, but seriously every film I work on makes me increasingly sad that I don't have more film of my own children when they were younger. There are so many little things, tiny mannerisms, goofy smiles and expressions that are just magic on film. When this little sprite twirled her hair, my heart just lifted. Seeing this little boy crack a smile to show off a newly missing tooth, sigh! But my favorite shot in this film, and one of my favorites ever, is watching these children race around their parents as dad plants a completely unprompted kiss on a smiling mom. As much as I harp on how wonderful it is to have your children preserved on film, it's also a gift to be able to look back at yourselves! As a parent of teenagers, I have vague memories of the blur of life raising small children. I wish I had film featuring my husband and I as young parents. As always, all drone shots are courtesy my assistant, Finley.
I get lots of questions about how I deliver my family films. Currently there are no photo delivery services that include the option of film delivery, so the industry standard is to transfer films through Vimeo. From there, you can download your film and share it. One of my FAVORITE things about Vimeo is that it has an Apple TV/Google Play/Roku app. Before I deliver a film, I pull it up on the big screen and view it through the app and every time I think THIS is how these films should be viewed. Typing in "Maggie Martin" in the search bar will bring you to my channel where all of my films are stored. I also always suggest waiting until you can gather the whole family to watch your film together for the first time.
The only question I get asked more often than delivery, is how much time does a family film add to your session. The answer is only 5-10 minutes! Most of the film is shot right alongside the photos or in the in-between moments. I still have a few spots open for fall and winter sessions which can include film (Fall Calendar can be viewed here). If you're interested now is the time! I will be creating new pricing structures to include films in more sessions in 2022.
